Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 8, 2026 · Last updated: September 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ziza LLC, a California limited liability company ("Ziza," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Ziza mobile application, the getziza.com website, and any related services (together, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your phone number, email address, password, username, display name, and date of birth. Your phone number is verified by a one-time code. We use your date of birth only to confirm you are 18 or over, and we store the fact of that confirmation alongside it.
- Your acceptance of our terms. When you create an account we record that you accepted the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Community Guidelines: the time, which version of each document you were shown, and the app version. This is a legal record and is kept for as long as we may need it.
- Profile information. Any optional profile details you add, such as a profile photo or bio.
- Taste and activity data. Your responses to the taste quiz, your verdicts on restaurants (for example "loved it" or "didn't love it"), ratings, saved lists, dietary preferences, and restaurants you mark as visited. This data powers your personal recommendations.
- Content you post. Reviews, photos, comments, dish mentions, list names and descriptions, and any disclosure you make that a meal was complimentary ("comped").
- Communications. Messages you send us, such as support emails or content reports.
- Invite list. If you request an invite on our website, we collect the email address you provide, and use it only to contact you about Ziza.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. How you interact with the Services — screens viewed, features used, searches performed, and similar app events — collected through our analytics provider.
- Device data. Device model, operating system and version, app version, language, time zone, and identifiers used for analytics and crash reporting. If you enable push notifications, we also collect a device push token so we can deliver them; you can turn push notifications off at any time in your device settings.
- Crash and performance data. Error logs and diagnostics that help us fix bugs.
- Location — only if you allow it. The app can use your device's location to show how far away restaurants are and to narrow your recommendations by distance. It asks your permission the first time you use a distance feature, and it only uses your location while you are using the app — never in the background. When you use a distance feature, your current location is sent to our servers to calculate distances for that request and is then discarded: we do not store your location, and we keep no history of where you have been. It is never shared with our analytics provider or any other third party. If you decline, or turn location off later in your device's Settings, the app keeps working using a fixed starting point in Irvine, California instead.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide and operate the Services, including generating your taste profile and personalized restaurant match scores;
- To show distances and narrow your recommendations by how far away a restaurant is, when you have allowed the app to use your location;
- To create and secure your account, including phone-number verification;
- To display your public content (such as reviews, photos, verdicts, and lists) to other users, consistent with the app's features;
- To send transactional communications, such as verification codes, account emails, and service announcements, and to deliver push notifications you have enabled (such as activity on your content or reminders — you can turn these off at any time);
- To understand how the Services are used, and to improve, test, and develop features;
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines;
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising. We share information only in these circumstances:
- With other users. Your username, display name, profile photo, taste type, and public activity (verdicts, reviews, photos, lists, follows) are visible to other users as part of the Services' social features.
- With service providers. We use trusted third-party providers to run the Services, and they process data only on our instructions. These currently include providers for data hosting and authentication, phone verification (SMS codes), transactional email, product analytics, crash reporting and error monitoring, automated image scanning (uploaded photos are screened for inappropriate content before they are shown), push notification delivery, and processing of the invite-request form on our website. If we add payment features in the future, payments will be processed by a payment provider, and Ziza will not store your full card details.
- For legal reasons. If required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Ziza, our users, or others.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- With your consent. Any other sharing will happen only with your direction or consent.
4. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, or as long as we need it to provide the Services.
When you delete your account, we delete your personal information and the content you posted promptly, and in any event within 30 days. This is described in detail in Section 5 below.
Two things outlast that window, and we state them plainly rather than bury them:
- Backups — up to 90 days. Our infrastructure providers keep routine encrypted backups so the Services can be restored after a failure. A copy of deleted data may remain in those backups for up to 90 days before it is overwritten in the normal rotation. We do not use backups to bring back deleted accounts or content.
- Records we are required or genuinely need to keep. We may retain limited information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to resolve a dispute, enforce our Terms, prevent fraud or abuse, or preserve a safety record — for example, a record that an account was suspended, or a report someone filed about another user's conduct. We keep only what is necessary for that purpose, and no longer than necessary.
5. Your Choices and Rights
- Location. Using your location is optional. You can allow or turn it off at any time in your device's Settings (on iPhone: Settings → Ziza → Location). Turning it off changes nothing else about your account; distance features simply use a fixed Irvine, California starting point.
- Access and update. You can view and edit your profile and taste preferences in the app.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account, or by emailing support@getziza.com. See the paragraph below for exactly what happens.
- Email preferences. You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in the email. We may still send essential service messages (such as verification codes).
What deleting your account actually does
Deletion means deletion. When you delete your account we permanently remove, promptly and in any event within 30 days:
- Your login — phone number, email address, and password. Your phone number is released and can be used to register a new account.
- Your profile, username, display name, profile photo, date of birth, taste quiz answers, taste profile, dietary preferences, and notification settings.
- The content you posted: your reviews, star ratings, verdicts, photos (including the actual image files, not just the database records), comments, dish mentions, saved lists, and badges.
- Likes and comments that other people left on your content, since the content they were attached to is gone.
- Your notifications, push tokens, and any content reports filed about your content.
Three things are deliberately kept, and you should know about them before you delete:
- An anonymous placeholder. We keep an empty, de-identified record labelled "Deleted account" with no personal information in it. It exists only so that the rest of the database stays internally consistent; it is not visible to other users and cannot be linked back to you.
- Group plans. If you took part in a group dining plan, the plan itself and its votes remain for the other people in it. A plan is a shared thing other people built with you, and deleting your account should not erase their evening.
- Reports you filed about someone else. A safety report is a record about another person's conduct, not about you, so it survives your deletion.
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone — we cannot restore a deleted account or its content, including from backups. Content that another user copied, screenshotted, or reposted before you deleted it is outside our control.
California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request access to or deletion of your personal information, to correct inaccurate personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or "share" (as defined by the CCPA) personal information. To exercise your rights, email support@getziza.com from the email associated with your account. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframe required by law.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" ("DNT") setting. There is no common industry standard for how services should respond to a DNT signal, and the Ziza website and app do not respond to DNT signals. We do not track you across third-party websites or apps over time for advertising, and we do not allow third parties to collect personally identifiable information about your activity across other sites through our Services. This paragraph is provided under California Business and Professions Code § 22575 (CalOPPA).
6. Age Requirement — 18 and Over
The Services are for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to use Ziza, and we ask for your date of birth when you create an account. The Services are not directed to children or to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete the account and that information. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us personal information, contact us at support@getziza.com and we will act on it.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
If we become aware of a security incident that compromises your personal information, we will notify you and any regulator as required by applicable law, without unreasonable delay, and we will tell you what happened, what information was involved, and what you can do about it.
8. International Users
The Services are operated from the United States and are currently intended for users in the United States. If you access the Services from elsewhere, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time, and we will update the "Last updated" date above. Minor, non-material changes take effect when posted. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Services and ask you to affirmatively accept the updated Policy before you continue using the Services — continued use alone is not acceptance of a material change. If you do not accept, you may stop using the Services and delete your account.
